Back on September 28th, I mentioned that Steamforged Games was releasing two new Dark Souls Core Sets as well as a new rule set. Well, this is the week!
Tomb of the Giants, ruled by Gravelord Nito, and Painted World of Ariamas, featuring Crossbreed Priscilla Dark Souls™: The Board Game – The Painted World of Ariamis Core Set – Steamforged Games, are currently available for Order for $110 each.
Both sets include 18 unpainted miniatures:
• 1 large boss
• 1 mini boss
• 13 enemies
• 3 characters
They also include everything else you need to play Dark Souls (game tiles, cards, dice, dashboards, etc.)
As promised, they have also released a pdf of the new rules, which can be found here.
There are also several interesting Designer Diaries from Sherwin Matthews that discuss the process and what went into creating the two new core sets, working with the community and creating the new ruleset. These can be found here.
Finally, Sherwin provided answers to the most frequent questions he received about the two new core sets, backwards compatibility, and the new rules. That can be found here.
I look forward to hearing how people respond to this new chapter in Dark Souls, given its shaky start and lukewarm reception. I hope these changes improve the game and reignite the possibility of more Dark Souls I the future. It is an amazing game and deserves an equally amazing tabletop experience.
