Hasbro announced today in an email to its Pulse HeroQuest backers that they will be creating a companion app in late 2021 to work with the HeroQuest game system.

From the announcement:

HeroQuest“With great fanfare, we’re excited to announce that we will be launching a HeroQuest Companion App in late 2021 alongside the HeroQuest Game System. The app is still in the forges of our most proficient app developers who are working hard to offer a number of features that will create an immersive HeroQuest experience.

Most notably you will be able to use the app as a replacement for the role of Zargon, allowing for a co-op or solo experience without the need for a player to become the Dread Sorceror. To start, this app will launch with support for the original Quest book and will be available through traditional app stores. Support for the Kellar’s Keep and Return of the Witchlord Expansions will be included in future updates.”

HeroQuest was originally published in 1989 by Milton Bradley and was one of the first tabletop dungeon crawl board games. In 2020, Hasbro launched a crowdfunding campaign on their Hasbro Pulse website to reboot the HeroQuest line. It raised $3,722,399 to nostalgic hungry backers.

HeroQuest has always been a 1 vs Many game where one player takes on the role of the evil Zargon and the others explore a dungeon in various quests. This digital app will let players experience the game in a fully cooperative mode, something that fans of the game have long wished for. The announcement email also included a link to a survey where backers could weigh in on what features they thought were most important for the app.

HeroQuest is due to deliver to backers in the fall of 2021.
