Codenames Duet XXL

I recently had a chance to play the XXL version of the cooperative take on Codenames. While we’ve already reviewed the regular-sized edition, we wanted to go through what this super-sized box offers and if it might be for you. The only difference is the size of the components, the gameplay and included words are all 100% the same as the original.

In the XXL version, the word cards are just shy of three times larger than the regular edition. When you lay out a 5×5 grid of cards, it’s going to cover more than four square feet. The benefit here, of course, is that you can play Codenames with a large group and folks will be able to see the cards without having to huddle around each other.

Although with Duet being really best as a two-player experience, it is likely not very necessary. I love the idea of a giant version of Codenames for playing with 8-10 people, but it’s mostly overkill for a small group.

That said, if you have regular Codenames XXL and just want additional cards, that is certainly a reason to pick this one up. If you just want to enjoy Duet though, it’s probably best to stick with the smaller version and saving precious shelf space.

If you want to pick up a copy of Codenames XXL, you can grab it online for about $35.
