By now everyone has probably experienced one of the virtual conventions that we’re all the rage last year. While it’s true that they were never going to be a legitimate substitute for an actual, in-person convention, these days we do what we must. But I can also understand people not getting very excited to watch a scheduled Zoom call about a game. That’s only marginally better than just watching it on YouTube later at your leisure.
However, trying to break out of the mold is Castle TriCon, which is definitely doing something different. Put on by publishers HeidelBÄR Games (Spicy), Czech Games Edition (Lost Ruins of Arnak, Under Falling Skies), and Horrible Guild (Railroad Ink), this online convention wants to literally give you a virtual world to play around in.
Players will create an avatar that moves around in a 3d world (Oasis anyone?) to chat with other people and demo games. I never got a chance to try out the first Castle Tricon back in September, but all reports were that it was one of the better virtual conventions put on.
If you are intrigued, Castle TriCon Spring Edition will be February 26–27, 2021. Tickets are free and you can download the app on either your Mac or PC.
So if you are looking for a way to escape the Polar Vortex, chat with other gamers and publishers, and maybe try out a few new games, this is worth checking out.
