In 2013, the Board Game Quest Awards were started to highlight standout tabletop games in the industry. Since then, it has become a yearly award given to the best and most innovative board and card games published.
The nominees are chosen each year by our editorial staff (currently 22 people), and voted on using ranked-choice voting. In addition to each of our staff members getting a vote, we also allow our readers to collectively have one vote as well. The winner is presented with an award trophy either via the mail, or at one of the many conventions each year.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any games considered must have been published for the first time during the previous calendar year (or be a significantly changed new edition). We allow some overlap for games released very close to the December/January change.
- The game must be printed in English.
- The game must have been available in retail, or delivered to crowdfunding backers during the eligibility window.
Timeline
- Nominees are chosen by the Board Game Quest editorial team early in the spring.
- Official nominees are announced on the site, usually late in March.
- Winners are announced on the site, usually late in April.
- Trophies are delivered either at Origins, Gen Con, Pax Unplugged, or via the Mail
Submitting Your Game for Consideration
All games considered for our awards are chosen by our editorial staff from games we consider to be of exceptional quality. However, if you’d like your tabletop game to be considered, you can submit the form below. This is not a requirement for games to be considered for a nomination, it is just a way for publishers to help make sure we are aware of games they consider to be truly exceptional.
